Vijayawada: Dr NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS), Andhra Pradesh, has issued updated guidelines for conducting practical examinations and appointing examiners for Super Speciality, Postgraduate (PG), and Undergraduate (MBBS) medical courses, in accordance with the National Medical Commission (NMC) norms.
The University’s Controller of Examinations has directed all affiliated medical colleges to circulate these revised norms among faculty members and ensure strict compliance. The guidelines cover the appointment of internal and external examiners, general instructions, remuneration, and procedures to be followed during examinations.
Guidelines for PG Courses:
- Clinical exams are conducted over one day for every eight candidates, while non-clinical exams take two days for every eight candidates.
- Two internal and two external examiners are required, with senior internal examiner acting as Chairman.
- External examiners must have at least 8 years of teaching experience post-PG, with 3 years as recognized PG guides.
- Internal examiners follow a similar experience-based selection process, including rotation and seniority rules.
Guidelines for Super Speciality Courses:
- Three candidates per day can be examined with two internal and two external examiners.
- Eligibility requires six years of teaching experience as Assistant Professor post-Super Speciality degree, including 3 years as recognized PG guide.
- Appointment procedures, rotation, and remuneration follow similar rules as PG courses.
Procedure for Appointing Examiners:
- External examiners are contacted by the phone, following the order of Professor & HOD, Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and no faculty will serve consecutively more than twice at the same college.
- Internal examiners are selected from the college faculty using a rotation system to ensure fair distribution.
Remuneration Details:
- Travel and daily allowances are provided based on the examiner’s location and mode of travel.
- Remuneration for conducting practicals and viva for MBBS ranges from Rs. 450 per candidate, with additional pay for the Chairman.
The University highlighted the need to follow these guidelines carefully and warned that any malpractice, such as bribery or unprofessional behaviour, will not be tolerated. the marks must be uploaded daily to the MEDHAS portal, and all examiners are required to be present throughout the examination schedule.
These changes are meant to make exams more consistent, fair, and maintain high academic standards in all affiliated medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh.
