The Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has accomplished an impressive milestone by increasing its number of postgraduate (PG) medical seats from 96 to 188.
This comes after the institute opened its new Super Specialty and Trauma Centers, which feature updated patient care and educational capabilities.
According to officials, IMS BHU intends to expand its reputation as one of India’s leading medical schools in the near future by adding about 40 more PG seats across ten departments.
The program supports national objectives under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), which emphasizes bettering access to specialized healthcare and medical education.
IMS BHU Team Inspection and Assessment
The Sir Sunderlal Hospital was recently evaluated by a four-person IMS team to evaluate the effectiveness and effects of the new trauma and super-specialty facilities.
The visit’s main conclusions were:
- The hospital now serves about 3,000 outpatients per day in its super-specialty block.
- The trauma center’s ICU bed capacity has grown from 84 to 100.
- Enhanced facilities and PG expansion have improved both academic training and patient management.
The inspection team, led by Dr. Pawan Taneja, interacted with doctors, students, and patients to evaluate infrastructure quality and the real-time benefits of the expansion.
Better Prospects for Students and Patients
IMS Director Prof. S.N. Sankhwar describes the seat expansion as a component of a larger plan to make IMS BHU a national center for advanced medical education and research. He said:
“IMS BHU is bridging the gap between modern healthcare needs and academic excellence with the addition of super-specialty facilities.”
More skilled professionals will be able to assist the nation thanks to this expansion.
