NEET PG 2025 Tie-Breaking Rules Explained
When two or more candidates get the same normalised marks in NEET PG 2025, NBEMS follows a step-by-step method to decide who gets the higher rank. These steps are applied in order until the tie is resolved.
Step 1: Fewer Wrong Answers in the Whole Exam
The first check is simple:
- The candidate who made fewer mistakes overall in the question paper will get a higher rank.
- Example: If Candidate A got 12 questions wrong and Candidate B got 15 wrong, Candidate A will rank higher.
Step 2 to Step 6: Section-Wise Fewer Wrong Answers
If both candidates have the same total number of wrong answers, NBEMS will check section-wise mistakes in the following order:
- Step 2: Section A – fewer wrong answers wins.
- Step 3: Section B – fewer wrong answers wins.
- Step 4: Section C – fewer wrong answers wins.
- Step 5: Section D – fewer wrong answers wins.
- Step 6: Section E – fewer wrong answers wins.
This means your accuracy in each section can make a difference in tie situations.
Step 7: Higher Marks in MBBS Professional Exams or FMGE
If the tie remains, NBEMS will look at your aggregate percentage in MBBS Professional Examinations:

- Higher MBBS exam percentage = higher rank.
- For Indian Citizens/OCI with foreign medical degrees, your FMGE percentage will be considered instead.
- Candidates must enter these marks accurately in the NEET PG application form (rounded down to two decimals). These will be verified with original documents during admission.
- Warning: If the marks are found incorrect and they were used to break the tie, your candidature will be cancelled.
Step 8: Age Factor
If all the above still cannot break the tie, the older candidate will get the higher rank based on their date of birth.
Important Note:
- Even if everything is equal, age can decide your rank.
- Accuracy matters; fewer wrong answers can give you an edge in tie cases.
- Your MBBS/FMG exam marks must be correct; false data can end your chances.
