Telangana PG Medical Admissions 2025: ₹50 Lakh Penalty for Leaving Seat Midway, Says KNRUHS

KNRUHS Telangana introduces a ₹50 lakh penalty for PG medical students who leave their seats midway during the 2025–26 academic session. Know details, bond rules, and implications here.

The Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Telangana has implemented a new bond policy for PG Medical Admissions 2025–26, imposing a hefty ₹50 lakh penalty on students who leave their seats before completing the course.

According to the latest notification, both in-service and non-service candidates under the Competent Authority Quota are required to submit a bond on ₹100 non-judicial stamp paper, agreeing to complete the course they are allotted.

₹50 Lakh Fine and Refund of Stipend for Midway Exit

If a candidate discontinues the PG degree or diploma course midway, they will be liable to:

  • Pay a penalty of ₹50,00,000 (Fifty lakh rupees) to KNRUHS.
  • Refund the entire stipend or salary received during the training period.

The university stated that this step aims to ensure that valuable postgraduate medical seats are not wasted due to midway withdrawals and to promote accountability among admitted students.

Bond Requirements for All Candidates

All candidates joining PG medical courses whether service or non-service must execute the bond, signed by the candidate, their parent, and two sureties. This legal agreement ensures financial and academic commitment to the program.

For non-service candidates, the bond also includes a one-year compulsory government service clause after course completion. Earlier, the bond amount was ₹10 lakh for diploma and ₹20 lakh for degree courses, which has now been replaced by the new ₹50 lakh seat-leaving penalty.

Purpose Behind the Rule

Officials at KNRUHS clarified that this decision was taken to prevent wastage of postgraduate seats and ensure continuous training in government medical institutions. In recent years, several candidates have left courses after securing seats in other states or through central counselling, leading to vacant positions that could not be refilled mid-session.

Reactions and Implications

While the move is expected to reduce seat desertion, it has sparked discussion among aspirants. Some candidates feel the penalty is too harsh and could discourage applications, particularly from those from financially weaker backgrounds.
