The Supreme Court of India has recently heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by NEET PG 2025 candidates questioning the answer key released by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Students claim that the answer key released on the official website is unclear and hard to verify. The petition also challenges a correction notice issued by NBEMS on August 21, 2025.
The case was first heard by Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran, and later moved to Justice JB Pardiwala’s bench. Earlier in May 2025, Justice Pardiwala had directed NBEMS to release the answer key, response sheets, and normalisation formula to ensure transparency.
Students Challenge Answer Key Format
According to media reports, the petitioners claim that the revised method of releasing the NEET PG 2025 answer key is unclear, confusing, and cannot be properly verified. As per NBEMS’s August 21 correction notice, answer keys and responses are now displayed using only “Question ID Numbers” from a master paper set of the exam.
The petitioners argue that since NEET PG 2025 had shuffled questions and options for each candidate, this system prevents students from matching their answers question by question. They state that this defeats the purpose of publishing answer keys, which is to help students check their responses, raise objections, and ensure fairness in the exam.
Students also claim that using only Question IDs makes the answer key impossible to verify and violates their right to equality and fair process under Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution.
