  • Conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).
  • Computer-Based Test (CBT) format.
  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with a single best answer.
  • Subjects based on the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum.
  • Negative marking is applicable for wrong answers.
Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME)

The National Medical Commission (NMC) introduced the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum in India in 2019. With this, NMC has transformed the traditional UG medical curriculum into a skill-based learning course.

CBME was designed to make students more competent in clinical, communication, and ethical decision-making skills.

The decision to offer two “mandatory” (supervised, experiential, immersive, and self-directed) electives in four-week blocks between MBBS Third Professional Parts 1 and 2 is welcome.

Key features of CBME:
1. Foundation course
2. Integrated (interdisciplinary) teaching
3. Formative assessments (regular feedback)
4. Early clinical exposure
5. Stress management training

In short, CBME shifts medical education from theory-heavy learning to practical, skill-based, ethical, and globally relevant training, with continuous feedback and early clinical exposure.

  • A centralised merit list will be prepared.
  • Separate state and category merit lists may be drawn from the central list.

  • States will conduct counselling for state quota seats.
  • 100% merit-based allocation through online counselling.
