NMC Releases NEET PG Seat Matrix 2026: Check College-wise Seats

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the postgraduate seat matrix for the academic year 2026-27. The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) issued it through a public notice. It lists the medical colleges and institutions, PG courses and annual intake approved for participation in counselling.

What the NMC PG Seat Matrix 2026-27 Contains

The matrix is a college-wise and course-wise list. For every entry it gives:

• College code
• State
• Name of the medical college or institution
• Category as per MCC (Government, Private or Deemed)
• Corrected course name
• Approved seats for 2026-27

PG Seats at a Glance

The notice does not give a combined total. By our count of the published matrix, it carries about 63,000 PG seats across all categories and courses.

MD seats make up the largest share at 39,608, followed by MS at 18,490. The rest are DM (2,549), M.Ch (2,162) and diploma seats (368).

States with the most seats: Karnataka (8,323), Maharashtra (6,992), Tamil Nadu (6,306) and Uttar Pradesh (6,082).

Courses with the most seats: General Medicine (6,143), Anaesthesiology (5,672), General Surgery (5,591), Obstetrics and Gynaecology (4,690) and Paediatrics (4,203).

Seats Not Yet Included

The matrix leaves out seats for applications seeking an increase in intake of existing PG courses. It also leaves out seats for new PG courses for 2026-27. NMC will add any such seats, once approved, in a later updated seat matrix on its official website.

Seat Matrix Can Be Revised

The published matrix may change based on decisions of MARB, the Appeal Committee or any other competent authority. Any revised matrix will be uploaded on the NMC website. The counselling committees of the Central Government and the State Governments and Union Territories will consider the revised matrix for counselling and admissions.

Instructions for Medical Colleges

NMC has told all medical colleges to admit students only against the number of seats approved by MARB for 2026-27. Admissions beyond a college’s approved intake will count as a violation of the NMC Act, 2019 and its regulations. NMC has said such colleges will face regulatory and penal action.

Instructions for Counselling Committees

Counselling committees must refer any discrepancy or deviation in the latest matrix to MARB for clarification. Colleges and counselling committees must also follow all NMC and MARB directions strictly.

Stakeholders should report any error, omission or inconsistency in the matrix to the President or Director of MARB. NMC has asked for this to be done before counselling begins, wherever possible. Queries can be sent to pg-marb@nmcindia.gov.in.
