New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India is set to hear petitions concerning the NEET PG 2025 counselling process today, September 19, after it was deferred from September 12. The bench comprising Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice KV Viswanathan will preside over the hearing.
The petitions, filed by NEET PG aspirants along with the United Doctors Front (UDF), question the transparency of the evaluation process. Following the apex court’s earlier directive, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) released the NEET PG answer key for the first time. However, candidates have raised objections, stating that the format containing only question IDs with their corresponding answers—lacks clarity since the full question papers were not provided.
Students argue that this approach makes it nearly impossible to verify responses, thereby eroding trust in the system. They have requested the court to direct NBEMS to adopt a more transparent evaluation method. The UDF had also opposed the conduct of NEET PG 2025 in two shifts using a normalisation formula. A subsequent corrective notice issued on August 21 has now also come under the Supreme Court’s scrutiny.
The petitioners contend that the limited disclosure is “opaque, unintelligible, and incapable of meaningful verification,” violating their constitutional right to fair admissions under Articles 14 and 21. They further allege that NBEMS has failed to comply with the Supreme Court’s April 29 order, which mandated the release of raw scores, complete answer keys, and details of the normalisation process.
Amid these ongoing proceedings, the NEET PG 2025 counselling schedule remains undecided. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has not yet announced the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling dates, which account for 50% of MD, MS, and PG Diploma seats. Meanwhile, states such as Gujarat, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu have already initiated registrations for their state quota counselling.
