The Doctors pursuing postgraduate medical courses in Karnataka will now have to serve at least one year in government hospitals as part of a compulsory bond service. The move aims to strengthen public healthcare by ensuring trained specialists contribute to government facilities before moving into private practice. The Authorities believe this will help bridge the gap in medical services, while also giving young doctors valuable on-ground experience in treating diverse patients.
This rule applies to all the candidates joining PG medical degree or diploma courses in government, private, or deemed colleges under government, private, NRI, or management quota. The only exception is for candidates who have already completed compulsory rural service after their MBBS.
Service Rules for Government Seat Students
Candidates who secure government seats, including those under the All India Quota, must serve the government for at least three years after completing their PG course, if required.
Failure to fulfill this bond obligation will attract a penalty of ₹50 lakh for PG degree holders and ₹25 lakh for diploma holders. Candidates will only be given temporary registration until they complete the compulsory service.
Service Rules for In-Service Candidates
In service candidates must sign a bond at the time of admission, committing to serve in government hospitals for at least 10 years.
These bond service rules for NEET PG 2025 medical and dental courses are outlined in the Karnataka Examinations Authority’s (KEA) e-Information Bulletin for 2025 admissions.
