Factors Affecting Bihar NEET PG Cutoff 2026
The Bihar NEET PG cutoff can change every year depending on exam difficulty, number of candidates, seat availability, reservation rules and counselling movement.
- Number of Candidates: Higher competition can change the closing rank for popular branches and colleges.
- Difficulty Level of NEET PG: A difficult paper can affect overall scores and rank distribution.
- Seat Matrix: An increase or decrease in MD/MS seats can directly influence closing ranks.
- Reservation Policy: Bihar counselling follows categories such as UR, EWS, BC, EBC, SC and ST, along with female-reserved seats where applicable.
- Qualifying Percentile: Any reduction in the qualifying percentile increases the number of candidates eligible for counselling.
- Fees, Bond and Stipend: High private college fees, service bonds and stipend differences can affect candidate preferences.
- Seat Resignation and Upgradation: Seats released after resignation or upgradation may change the cutoff in later counselling rounds.
How Bihar NEET PG Qualifying Cutoff Is Calculated
The NEET PG qualifying cutoff is based on percentile, not percentage of marks. Percentile indicates a candidate’s position relative to other candidates who appeared in the examination.
Percentile = (Total Candidates − Your Rank) ÷ Total Candidates × 100
For example, if 2,00,000 candidates appear and a candidate secures rank 1,00,000, the candidate is approximately at the 50th percentile. The qualifying score corresponding to the prescribed percentile becomes the cutoff for that category. The actual rank, however, is determined by the marks obtained in NEET PG.
NEET PG Qualifying Cutoff Trends
The table below shows the category-wise NEET PG qualifying marks for recent years:
| Year | General / EWS | SC / ST / OBC | General PwBD | Maximum Marks |

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the Bihar NEET PG cutoff 2026?
The qualifying cutoff is 262 for General/EWS, 244 for General PwBD and 226 for SC/ST/OBC, out of 720. The admission cutoff is the closing rank for each college, branch and category, released after each PGMAC round.
Is there a separate qualifying cutoff for Bihar?
No. Bihar follows the NBEMS qualifying cutoff.
What is the difference between the qualifying cutoff and the closing rank?
The qualifying cutoff decides if you can take part in counselling. The closing rank is the last rank at which a seat was allotted to a college, branch and category.
Why do closing ranks for female seats differ from general seats?
Female seats are separate allocations within each category, with their own supply and demand, so their closing ranks can be higher or lower than the GEN seat.
Can candidates from other states apply in Bihar?
Non-domicile candidates are generally eligible for private seats. Check the BCECEB prospectus for government seat eligibility.
