AIQ vs State Quota Seat Split

Government PG seats in Pondicherry are divided equally between two counselling authorities:

  • 50% All India Quota (AIQ): Filled by MCC based on the NEET PG All India merit list. Open to candidates from anywhere in India.
  • 50% State (UT) Quota: Filled by CENTAC. Domicile and eligibility rules apply as per Puducherry’s state counselling guidelines. Private and Management/NRI quota seats across Puducherry’s private colleges are also counselled entirely by CENTAC.

Eligibility Criteria

To take part in Puducherry NEET PG counselling 2026, candidates must meet the following conditions:

  • Qualify NEET PG 2026 with the minimum qualifying percentile: 50th for General/EWS, 45th for General-PwBD, and 40th for SC/ST/OBC (including PwBD of SC/ST/OBC).
  • Hold an MBBS degree recognised by the NMC.
  • Hold permanent or provisional registration with the NMC or a State Medical Council.

How to Use the Seat Matrix for Choice Filling

  • Check branch-wise seat availability: Review how many seats are available in your preferred MD/MS specialisation across different colleges.
  • Shortlist colleges based on preference: Prepare a list of colleges according to factors such as branch, location, fees, stipend, bond requirements and hospital exposure.
  • Compare Government and Private colleges: Check the seat distribution, tuition fees and quota type before adding a college to your choice list.
  • Arrange choices in the correct order: Place your most preferred college and branch combinations at the top, followed by other suitable options.
  • Use previous-year cutoff trends: Compare your NEET PG rank with previous CENTAC counselling cutoffs to understand which colleges and branches may be realistic options.
  • Include a balanced set of choices: Add ambitious, realistic and comparatively safer options to increase your chances of allotment.
  • Check quota and category eligibility: Make sure the seats you select are available under the quota (Government/Management/NRI) and reservation category applicable to you.
  • Review the latest round-wise seat matrix: Seat availability can change after every counselling round, so always check the latest CENTAC matrix before filling or locking choices.
  • Verify everything before locking: Recheck the order of preferences, branch, college, quota and seat availability before final submission.
